60 minutes just did a really sloppy piece on Qatar, They had the Emir talking about how everything is *free*, free healthcare, free education, free housing and free electricity yada yada.

99% of your idiot audience will never have a clue that there are 1.5 million “workers” in Qatar who are non-citizens and exist practically as indentured servants, who don’t enjoy -ANY- of those free perks because they lack citizenship.

In this Country of nearly 2 million, only 300,000 enjoy Citizenship and all the trappings that go with it.

Qatar’s a nice place, but it’s typical as Oil rich Arab countries go, and because of the way they use third World labor, Qatar is far from the “Utopia” that the fawning Bob Simon so blithely described.

I can’t stand these effete, glib, blithe, old media pricks. Can’t fucking stand them. The knobs at 60 minutes don’t give a ripe shit about the truth.

Here’s the deal: Bob Simon thought his big “Get” was the gotcha question about the Qatar flag being flown over Gaddafi’s compound.  Oh, clever. So you allowed 15 minutes of glowing P.R. -for the chance to needle him over his role in Gaddafi’s overthrow. Nice.

I’m sure the creators of 60 mins are amused that only a fraction of their audience will understand the bait-and-switch. But they figure they will give themselves a pass for the 2% who “get” the point of the interview.

And the net result is that the broadcast audience being the stupid slobs they are, will stand around the coffee cooler tomorrow grumbling about how they saw on 60 minutes Qatar has free EVERYTHING and how shitty the U.S.A. is for not being more like Qatar.

15 days into the New Year and I’ve watched less than an hour of Network TV. -Fuck em, I don’t need em.
